Evart Snow Run, February 2008!

February 8-10 th was our annual Evart run. Friday night we met the RPM group at the Moose Lodge for dinner and on Saturday we had 15 rigs from the Sundowners and RPM had 5. We broke into two groups on Saturday and ran trails. There was over 2 ft of snow and mostly everyone got stuck. The Sundowners exceeded the limit on people in the hot tub and had a great time. There are some great pictures on Michigan Wheelers of the event as well. It was a very nice run and members have stories on who was on a strap, who was driven circles around, who had a winch attached to them and couldn’t move forward, who was being pulled out and instead of being in reverse was in 4 th, who can’t keep their zippers up, who fell in the snow in an awkward position, who ran around the hotel in their underwear & socks and who gets hit in the face and doesn’t like it, who stinks, etc.

Canada Run, October 2007

October 4 th – 7 th was the Canada run and seven Sundowners attended. 8-9 rigs ran the Buttermilk Trail on Friday and on Friday night they had bad storms and over 4” of rain. Many roads and highway 17 were shut down. 13+ rigs went out on Saturday and found that one trail was closed and decided to run Buttermilk backwards. Part of this trail was washed out from the storms the night before and hours were spent building a bypass. The group had a great time

BBBS Run, September 2007

September 29 th was the BBBS event at the property. 22-24 BBBS showed up and we grilled up 80 burgers for the group. A couple members got stuck in the mud and one member broke.

TWO Sundowners teams compete in Fourwheeler Magazine's Real Truck Club Challenge (R.T.C.C.) 2006!

REAL TRUCK CLUB CHALLENGE

August 12 th – 13 th, 2006

The guys went to the meeting on Friday night and two vehicles had not shown up yet.   Four-Wheeler was looking for an alternate vehicle to run and Adam put his name in.   He wouldn’t know until Saturday morning.

Saturday morning came and Adam was entered in the challenge along with Abe.   Since there were only two other members (Ken and Adam) that went down with Abe, Abe had to find a co-driver for himself.   His friend Nate showed up to watch and was put in as co-driver.   Nate had never wheeled before, so he was in for a treat.

Abe was the 1 st vehicle up on Saturday morning for the obstacle event.   You only had 10 minutes to make three laps around a very hard course.   Abe made it around without winching or breaking and was 50 yards from the finish line when the horn went off for time.   Adam went last and was unable to finish his first lap because his shocks and springs broke off the rear end and was a DNF.   Abe came in second in this event because there was only 1 person that was able to finish.   The guys got done with this event and started fixing Adam’s Jeep for the mud run.

The second event on Saturday was the mud run.   Abe started first again and ran it in 17 seconds.   The rest of the vehicles ran it anywhere from 11+ seconds.   I think Adam came in 3 rd in this event.

Sunday was the rock climb and buzzards roost.   The big vehicles started first and nobody made it to the top.   They changed the course for the smaller vehicles and Adam was the 1 st to go.   He made it to the top in 1 minute 8 seconds and did a great job.   Abe was the last guy to go and he broke his right axle shaft while climbing the rocks and had to pull cable.   He just started climbing the rock face to finish the race when the horn blew and his 5 minutes was up.   Adam came in 1 st place on this event and I think Abe was 4 th.

The next event was buzzards roost.   They ran the smaller vehicles first and Adam was supposed to start first but the judges let him come in later so that they could help get Abe fixed.   Adam went through the mud hole and started to climb the rock face when his Jeep died and he couldn’t get it started again and DNF.   Abe ran the whole course without winching in 4 minutes, 8 seconds and we think he came in around 3 rd or 4 th place.

They only awarded three positions and Adam came in 3 rd winning $500.00.   We think Abe came in 4 th place, but we are unsure until the magazine/video comes out in February.

Evart Trip 2006

February 10-12 the club traveled up to Evart, MI for a snow run. We had a combined run with Forgiven 4x4 and RPM 4x4 Club. Although RPM didn't know it until Friday when our scout met them by stopping at a cabin that had Jeeps parked out front. There were about 28 rigs and 70 people in attendance. On Saturday the rigs were split into two groups and the guys from RPM led us on some trails. Over 150 miles of road and trail was covered with only minor carnage.

Canada Wheelin' 2005 !

We had 10 capable rigs make the trip to Canada. Camp was located 17 miles north of the International bridge at Sault Ste. Marie. The group hit the trails on both Friday and Saturday. The trails contained a mix of mud, rocks, hills and water. There was some breakage, but nothing we couldn't handle. Now we just look forward to next time.

Sundowners Toys for Tots Drive, December 9, 2004

This event was held at the K-Mart on Westnedge in Kalamazoo. We had many of our rigs on display parked on snowbanks, rocks or whatever in the parking lot. Three Marines stood with us at different times of the day. We also had "Freakin" Jay Deacon from WRKR broadcast live on location in the afternoon. Channel 3 news also came out and filmed a news story. We collected over 750 toys and $200 donated in one day! Thank you to everyone who helped to make this event a huge success!

Sundowners team competes in Fourwheeler Magazine's Real Truck Club Challenge (R.T.C.C.) 2004!

This event was organized by Fourwheeler Magazine to create an event similar to the Top Truck Challenge but for street legal, steel bodied 4x4s. Over 150 clubs submitted entries for their 4 man teams and only 20 teams were selected according to strict criteria. The Sundowners team consisted of Mark Prange, Abe Dunning, Greg Crist, and driver/owner Ken Menck. The event was held at the Badlands off-road park in Attica, IN. The obstacles were extremely tough and despite some breakage our team came home with a 13th place finish and the Team Spirit Award. Great job guys! Read the whole story here.
